Presbyterian Hospital Receives VHA Leadership Award for Superior Clinical Performance

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- VHA Inc., a national healthcare alliance, has given Presbyterian Hospital the 2008 VHA Leadership Award for Superior System Performance, which recognizes health systems that provide high-quality care across four major clinical categories: heart attack treatment, surgical infection prevention, management of heart failure and pneumonia care, beginning 3Q 2006 through 2Q 2007.
Presbyterian Hospital was one of only two VHA member hospitals to win this prestigious award; the other was Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, which like Presbyterian is affiliated with Novant Health. "This award validates the dedicated focus of our physicians and staff on pursuing excellence in patient care," said Lynn Boggs, president of Presbyterian Hospital and Presbyterian Orthopaedic Hospital and chief operating officer of Presbyterian's Center City Market.
Presbyterian Hospital was also recognized for the care it provides to patients in its intensive care unit (ICU). The VHA Transformation of the ICU Award for Clinical Excellence honors organizations that have distinguished themselves from other VHA members by meeting or exceeding national performance standards in specific clinical categories. The award is based on the latest set of measures that have been nationally accepted as indicators of quality.

Presbyterian Hospital was honored at VHA's Leadership Conference in Philadelphia on May 4. VHA serves more than 1,400 not-for-profit hospitals and more than 21,000 non-acute healthcare organizations nationwide.
